So i'm thinking about the accusump setup and the fact that i'll have almost ten quarts of oil capacity in my engine with everything plumbed.  A little ridiculous, don't you think? Won't that, like, take alot longer for the motor to heat up then? Who needs watercooling, anyway!    The more i drive this car the more i realize i need a daily driver.  It's not that this car isn't a bad daily, it's that this powerplant isn't really meant for it.  I think it might be time to decommission the 240sx until i graduate.  Maybe pick up an ef civic or something easy and reliable.  Then i can not worry about if it's going to rod knock or not.
I'm not sure.

It's never fun building a capable machine and then not actually being able to have fun with it.  That's kind of like having a pet greyhound and keeping him inside the house all day instead of letting him outside to haul ass once in a while.  That can't be healthy.

you should be running an oil thermostat.

I was looking at that, but I still dont' see how the oil thermostat will affect the amount of oil in the accusump (which is there for cold starting in the first place), and the amount in the greddy oil pan.  it's not like i'm adding an oil cooler and like 5 feet of line to plumb it, you know what i mean?

well, as you said "cold starting".

As soon as the engine is started, the accusump is recharged with "cold" oil that has been displaced by the engine's oil pressure during normal opperation.  So, your in-engine volume should be the same.  so, the oil thermostat would prevent oil from passing through coolers or what have you.  The accusump IIRC isn't a flow-through design.  It's just a sealed pressure chamber (spring or air-bladder I believe) that fills when the oil pressure is greater than that of the spring/air-bladder pressure.

Yeah.  I don't have any coolers so I don't think i'll need a thermostat.  The accusump functions exactly as you said.  spring/air bladder chamber that fills up during engine operation, and then empties when engine pressure is below a certain amount.    but i don't really see how i'd want to incorporate a thermostat with that.
