What are they really?
Fuel cells.
These were the cars they had in the shop at the time.

I had found their address at some point during my backpacking trip in 08. Took the train to Rugby and camped out in the business park (industrial estate?) that night. (The midlands are cool. World class motorsports just hidden in any old business park. Judd was next door.) Anyways. Walked up to the front door the next day and told the one Japanese dude there about how I was hitching around the UK and Europe visiting all the cool car sites / museums / races and showed him pictures of my Starion. He thought it was cool I guess and ended up giving me a tour of the whole place. Saw the WRC windtunnel models, an old Dakar Pajero, 8 chassis being built and all the WRC trophies. He ended up giving me a ton of stuff. Team sweatshirts, polos, past 5 team yearbooks and then a ride back to the train station. Unfortunately, I couldnt take pictures because the whole place was in the process of being sold (this was the year Mistsubishi quit the WRC) and only snuck a few:
