Life is all good again! Car is running and taking beatings without problems. I got ahold of Daniel Starksen at ACT and he convinced me to go with a 6-puck unspring and a heavy duty pressure plate. I got it installed the Tuesday before MDU RD. 2. and decided driving it up an down the driveway a few times was a solid break in period. The transmission makes all sorts of new space ship noises so I'm pretty confident the clutch problem is solved.

I do fear the transmission going out now, and everyone that I tell my setup to, "solid motor mounts, unsprung clutch, etc." their faces revolt and immediately tell me that I'm going to explode gears soon. Instead of getting a really expensive Z32 transmission setup I found place in Traverse City that cryo treats all sorts of goodies for the air craft industry. Just so happened I had a spare KA trans willing to donate internals.

Pictures of the gears after treating. Looks like gears, right?

Debating whether or not I should install these gears before MDU RD 3.

This past weekend MDU and the Drift Effect shared an event at Lake County Speedway near Cleveland. I stayed at Skud's place on Thursday and admired the aftermath of his fire catastrophe at ECB. That car has come along ways. I hope you dudes seriously fuck this kid up when he turns 21 and goes to Vegas for FD. He's had nothing but bad luck for a solid year. He needs love from lots of strippers and alcohol.

I qualified 11th and knocked myself out following Troy Manners. I was trying to be all cool and get close and dug myself into a shit spot. Congrats to Mike Pollard for first, Troy Manners for second, and Chris Conley for third place. A non-V8 podium crowd is awesome to see. I walked away from this event with 14 points towards the overall series and put myself in the 4th spot.

Here's GOBro video of Chris Conley and myself going in circles at Lake County Speedway.

Then got some cool shots.

Since the car made it back home without a single problem and requiring me to spend money to fix it I'm now looking for a cool suit so I don't pass out from heat. Fuck all that being hot nonsense. I live in Michigan, it could snow right now.

my car is no different than yours--8 years on the same trans.  So far so good.  I am convinced a good fluid goes along way.  I also drive like a complete twat but thats besides the point

3 weekends ago a few drift duders from Michigan got together and rented out Autocity Speedway for ourselves. Doing shit like this is drifting I've always dreamed of. No spectators, no judges, no bullshit, just the drivers and their small pit crew. We had about 7 drivers and plenty of time to dick around and tune the cars in perfect for MDU RD. 3. Unfortunately a broken manifold stud caused the lost of a MM HPs and gold car became stupid to drive. Kind of a wash of a day, but I looked at it as a really good time to find these problems. Some pics from the drift day.

Ryan Nalenzyty and myself having some fun.

Then we did a 3 car train and I spun leading. Ryan goes flying off over the bank and Shane Whalley (GTO) kissed my front end.

The bash bar and hood took all of the force and didn't tweak or cause any damage to the chassis. This is the first time I've tested the design of the front bash bar so I'm thoroughly happy with the results. Time to build another one and go crash into people. biggrin

While at that event, my roommate/bff Chris Conley, blew his motor. Not kewl, not kewl at all. Right after a run, the motor starts making a rotardy sound and spews out oil from the exhaust. We pulled the plugs and found #2 completely detonated on itself. The next 2 weeks consisted of staying up until 1-4am every night so we can go to MDU RD. 3.

The story:

*SAD FACE* piston. #2 apparently leaned out.

Then we get the block fixed. Due to time constraints and money Chris couldn't exactly do things the RIGHT way. You can still see scaring on the #2 cylinder wall. Not possible to fix until we bore out to 87mm; requiring a slew of new parts and tune. We decided to cheap out just for MDU RD 3 and threw in some old S13 pistons and rods. Touge Factory hooked us up with a fresh new Cosworth head gasket and motor went back together.

It all goes back together Thursday night and we leave to Indy on Friday. #2 compression only reached 90+ PSI. At that point there wasn't much we could do about it. Chris drove his car 8 hours south to compete at MDU RD 3, beat the shit out of it, then drove it back home. 800 miles without a single problem from the motor. *Golf clap*

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MDU RD 3 was ALOT of fun. The course was held in the parking lot and had a nice long 3rd gear entry down to a 2nd gear hair pin. K-rail grinds was the name of the game.

Course Layout*

Early in practice I'm feeling the car out now that I have no manifold leaks. Gold car is FAST! It is every thing I've ever dreamed of. Then my 10th or so lap I throw it into 3rd gear and hear a magical "POOF!" sound followed by horrible grinding noises. 3rd gear is gone and I'm sad! Boner became instantly flaccid. I manned up, turned the boost up, and upped the rear tire pressure in effort to do the track in 4th gear but it just fell on its face.

Some pics of gold car when it was driving.

At qualifying Chris became my hero and let me use his car to compete in and gain some points. I've always said no to driving other people's car because I don't want the responsibility of crashing or blowing up their shit, but I need points and I really felt jewed over by my car. The first time driving a car other than my own in the last 5 years is qualifying and I got super lucky to gain 11th place. I faced Keith Carlos the first round and had a huge nasty correction knocking myself out. I don't care, I did more than nothing with the help of Chris. I <3 my friends.

Me doing stuff in Chris's car

So right now my trans is dropped off at a shop getting the Cryo-treated gears installed and gold car is getting prepped to do awesome things at Street Life Tour.

I fucking hate drifting, I just love the people involved. Thank you guys!

I did go off road once or twice! Then lined right back up to go again.

I like the look of gold car lowered but I really like the way it drives when its raised. I'm following the MotoIQ guide and loved it since day one.

Now I'm looking at purchasing GeoMasters knuckles so I can have the best of both worlds. I wanna finish this season with MDU in a strong position so money goes towards straight functionality rather than looks at the moment. One of these days it'll be back to being pretty.

Simba come out to Street Life Tour! COME ON!!!!!!!

Hello ZT! We meet again....

I meant to make a post recapping the Street Life Tour a long time ago but got distracted after the event focusing on school stuff. As of Jan. I'm back at Grand Valley State University studying Film & Video production and my goal is to finish my degree this year so I can go on with my life and get a real job somewhere. I'm probably gonna move back to California for obvious Film reasons.

Now with the story: MDU RD. 3 was such a let down for me. I was upset that my transmission finally gave way and lost a really good lead on the competition, so SLT was all out or nothing. At the point of starting SLT I really didn't care for the car or motor and wanted to keep pushing faster and higher on the bank. As cliche' as it sounds, the goal was to not give a fuck; what happens, happens.

The road trip from Traverse City, MI to Xenia, OH was about 9 hours. I get to the track about an hour before the Friday night practice starts (@ 4pm) and work my way up to doing something cool. I'll be the first to admit, I have a fear riding walls on banked surfaces. The first time on the track wasn't driving around the track to play it safe and learn the track again, it was simply go fast and don't lift! Entirely new ground breaking concept for me.  gay

Some shots of the night:

SLT doesn't allow us to tandem during practice so that's fucking gay. I don't understand why.

Then Sat. came around and still no tandem during practice. Sometime before noon they switched up the format and did qualifying early, still without tandem, then had a hour jam session to tandem with the qualified drivers before going right into the competition. Most ass-backwards format I've ever heard of.

Anyways, did some cool stuff.

Mike Feiock leading

Did a standing burn out

Traversing mountains with ride height

Trailing Devin Callahan

Then I qualified 6th! Mind blowing considering how many good drivers come out to this event. Here is the video of my second qualifying run which landed me so high.

My bag of dicks lining up for driver's presentation

During competition I spun out leading against Mike Feiock. I'm upset with myself to make it this far during the season to fail at what should have been the easiest time for me. I lost that round and immediately started making plans to drive in the 2013 season. Drifting is a small part of the fun going on at these events. The other driver's, the MDU crew, and the support you get from your friends and family is really the best part of doing this and I'm young enough to continue ruining my bank account without ruining my life. Thank all of you dudes!

I plan on painting the car this season. I'm most likely going to paint it a fresh new color before SLT 2013 because I have plans to drive like a total asshole throughout RD. 1 to RD. 3. Other than the car looking like a bag of dicks, I'm honestly happy with everything else. I'm gonna do a bit of prepping during Spring Break, maybe change the oil, and that's it. I'll meet you guys at Indy on May 4th!

I expect some of you Chicago bros to come do something this year! biggrin

Car will look good sometime mid-season. Granted, if shit doesn't explode.

Not going to NSB this year. Too much to do during school in that time frame. Early April its still snowing at my house.
