was it the V10? because towing with the "triton" V10 was god damned awful, too.
i think the one you used was broken. my 8800 lbs truck tows 7k lbs up hills @ 75 with od on. no downshifting retardedness. just set the cruise control and go i do agree, i heard the v8s are god awful for towing. Ford V10 = terrible, i don't care what you say on the internet [to justify your retarded purchase]. It's gutless, and terrible. I would gladly tow with a 1988 6.5 Turbo Diesel over a late-model V10 gasser (if they even made them in 88).

no, it sounds like the V8; but, worse because it has 2 more holes making noise as it struggles its way up a flat road.

Lol the v10 Triton. The only reason I'd ever end up with one of those is if it was in an excursion I just could NOT pass up

the dudes who are standing behind gas motors.
uhm. have you ever towed with a diesel? have you ever towed with a diesel going 80mph up an 8% grade or more?
also. the 5.4l is a pile of junk. it'll get you to where you need to go. but it feels like the truck is going to break down at any minute.

I tow with gas cuz it was the only 2500HD I could afford
there are absolutely no advantages of towing with a gas motor over a diesel. Maybe gas prices but still you'll get half the mileage towing that you would with a diesel so I really don't count that.

repair costs, but repairs are so few and far between on a diesel it doesn't even matter.
....unless you have an lb7!!

i never said it was better. i never said i didn't want a diesel. i couldn't justify spending diesel truck money. when i got a newer lower mileage truck that does everything i need it to.
all you BRO's that are towing 1-3k miles at a time. it makes sense. i don't do that.
BUT for the towing i do. the v10 does the job without breaking a sweat and its done it for 50k+ miles now.

Another Ford V10 hater here, we have it in our work truck and its the biggest piece of shit I've ever towed with. Sounds like a demolition derby car as well. Stew - I keep seeing all these awesome excursions around with the 7.3. Makes my heart jump a little everytime
