hey can any of you dudes recommend a quality affordable winch to hook up to my car trailer. Probably the biggest thing I'm ever going to hook it up to is like a ford explorer or some SUV like that. I want to get one that has jumper leads I can just attached to the battery on my truck.

i have a $70 3000 lbs harbor freight winch on my trailer

it makes crazy noises and is really slow but it works

i might just be lucky with that

anything non harbor freight is gonna be like $300 to $500

yeah. i was using a big optima yellow top i had sitting around

but i have also used random charged car batteries, same thing

if you want to use your car battery, you would need like 50 foot cables!

I got one of the $50   2k lb winches from harbor freight, and mounted an extra car battery on the trailer for the winch.  I've pulled my FC on and off the trailer like 15 times or more and haven't had to charge the battery yet.

its slow, but faster than trying to drive the car on to the trailer by yourself.

I have one of the $500 wireless winches on my trailer and battery on the trailer. I just disconnect it when I'm not using it. Seriously makes the trailer so much nicer well worth it.

how do y'all charge the batteries?  Do you just feed it with small gauge wire?  So it charges while it's plugged into the trailer harness?

I just hook mine up to a batter charger occasionally it's got a big ass marine battery and I hardly ever charge it and it's never been low on me but the winch is only used for like 2 min at any time.

How much was that may be worth it just for the peace of mind that the battery is charged when I need it.

I'd go warn, their prices are a bit higher but they are much better quality than most winches out there. also warn has a rebate on right now but I think it might be ending soon.
