car started falling on it's face here and there over the weekend at a drift day, and once on the way home.
it feels like a classic "i just popped a coupler off" boost leak.  lots of black smoke out of the exhaust, smells fuely, car barely chugs/dies.  won't start back up right away until i let it sit for a minute.
but then it's fine.  the car would get disabled mid run, and once i'd get it started again, i could finish the run WOT just fine.

i tried boost pressure testing it, first my bov starts making noise, then there's some air pfshing through somewhere near the intake manifold, i can't find the leak.  thinking maybe it's the air going past the throttle plate?  brought it in to have TF test it.

i also took apart my bov and found the diaphragm was cracked in a few places.  so i bought a replacement diaphragm (not cheap) and replaced that this evening, but have not driven it since.  i couldn't get the car to fuck up on my ride to work today no matter how hard i beat on it, so it'll be hard to tell when it's fixed.

i guess my question is, will a leaky bov diaphragm cause the car to randomly completely fall on it's face/become disabled until it's deflooded (if that's what's causing it not to run/start)  i'm getting mixed info from people on this.  some people saying yes, some people saying no.

my other train of thought would be igniton, maybe ignitor?  probably not a coilpack?  checked plugs, they look fine.

Probably BOV, if not that check the pins on your MAF.  Could be cracked or durty.

Mine was cracked just a bit and would do the EXACT same thing.  The pins would sometimes connect and other times just fail completely at higher (>3k rpms).

does the bible even have any passages specific to medicine? i know it says "you can get buzzed on wine, but don't get trashed out" somewhere in it

thanks

i do plan on swapping out the maf and or ignitor since i have spares, if the problem persists.

i really hope it was just the bov.

yeah, my o2 sensor took a shit on me, it's on the list to replace.

bov is still leaking from the top screw

it's a greddy type-S.  i'm being told that for 20psi i need type-R...

can bov's go bad, like beyond just the diaphragm?

why the fuck is diaphragm spelled so annoyingly?

a blow off valve is just a diaphragm with a spring behind it... not a whole lot to go wrong.

If you're gonna buy an entirely new BOV you should just get a TiAL IMO... yeah you gotta weld on a new flange but there's no gasket to leak and the shit is boss.

If you hate the way the word diaphragm is spelled enough you can go to a Synchronic...

Ive had a break up issue similar to this in my last SR swap in my s14. I've given up. Tried CAS, Coilpacks, Ignitor, Timing, Boost Leaks, MAF, etc etc...Still does the same shit. it's like a break up/2-step bull shit...it even does it under free revs at times.

Fuck cars.

So here's the deal.

I fixed all my potential boost leaks, thinking that that was the problem.  Drove the car pretty hard during the week, and could not get it to screw up.

Friday afternoon, I pack up the car for Blackhawk Farms Raceway for Saturday's HSAX.  I left in the evening, made it about 3 miles, with my dog in the car, so I was driving super slow and smooth, and the car just fell on it's face again.  It's almost as if the car shuts off, but it doesn't.  I can barely keep it alive to turn into a neighborhood, and then the car dies.  It feels like I've got about 1hp.   And I can smell fuel.   I wait a minute, and it's like nothing ever happened.  I turned around and went home and swapped out my ignitor and MAF.

Here is a weird" "symptom", although I am not sure if it is related.  On my way home from last weekend's drift event, when the car died on the highway, my turn signals stopped flashing, they would just stick on.  (i have my turn signals wired to the old pop up headlights switch and defrost switch or whatever that other one is) so there's no stalk.  probably not relevant.  but anyway, once i started the car up again, the turn signals operated normally.   Well, this Friday when it happened 3 miles away from my home, my turn signals started doing the sticky thing again (not flashing, just lighting up solid) and has yet to return to normal.

This is making me think that maybe it's something electrical.

Anyway, back to the story, I drove 90 miles to blackhawk farms with no problems.  Paid my entry fee and club dues, and sure enough the next morning I made it to the last turn, gave someone the point to pass, and as soon as I got back on the throttle, I had no power.  Was able to limp it off the track to the starting grid, where it died and smelled like fuel.  Later on, I thought I found a loose ignition wire on my relay panel, so I tightened that, and went back out.  Turn one the car started bucking a little bit.  Turn two was fine.  Turns 3 and 4 the car just lost all power again, and I had to limp it off the track.  Was able to limp it all the way to the pits, but it died before I got to my spot.  Again, smelled like fuel, waited a minute, turned it on, car was fine.

Made the 90 mile drive home with no problems.

Turn signals still not flashing.

Some of the guys at the event were talking about the ARC 8000 switch panels having issues, but I am not sure if they are similar to mine.

Oh yeah, one other thing.  This shit happened to me once last year on the way to an event, but I had completely forgotten about it until now.   So I have a feeling this might not necessarily be a new problem.

I have known a couple people with issues relating back to the ARC panels.

You should also put a 1j in this.  Problem solved!!

Give Layla a hug for me.
